Wu Xing – Five Elements
Sundaram Tagore Gallery, Hong Kong, 2012
In his site-speciFc installation, Wu Xing – Five Elements, Jyoti interprets the traditional Chinese elements – earth, water, Fre, metal, and wood – that represent the fundamental forms of energy. The exhibition offered a multi-sensory experience of smell, sound, and touch. Jyoti contrasted paintings and drawings made with earth colors, gum arabic, shilajit (Ayurvedic medicine) and turmeric with sculptures created from baskets covered in beeswax and vessels from Hong Kong and Nepal. The exhibition was inspired by the advent of the Year of the Dragon, the dynamism of Hong Kong, and the architecture of the gallery space.
