Underlying all of my sculpture is the idea of transformation and renewal.
Jyoti’s diverse body of sculpture embraces innovation and continuity. His work reflects an intimate relationship with nature and the cultures of both North America and Nepal. Fluidity characterizes his style and process, which combines chance, meditation, and problem solving. Sculptures organically evolve as Jyoti senses and conveys the essence of his materials: wood, bamboo, clay, beeswax, and earth.
For Jyoti, making sculpture also means transforming a wide array of found and functional objects into new identities. He is not only attracted to ordinary items for their color, shape, and texture but also the potential for metamorphosis. In the artist’s hands, these objects assume new identities and contexts for discovery.
